What is MCSA and what will it do for me? |

Microsoft® Certified Systems Administrator – MCSA – is the official Microsoft-recognized certification that gives you the skills to managing, supporting, and troubleshooting the ongoing needs of Microsoft® Windows® server-based operating environments. MCSA’s are able to analyze business requirements and design and implement the infrastructure for business solutions. It’s one of the fastest growing qualifications in the UK and is aimed at support and administration positions.
You will gain vital experience managing and supporting a desktop server and network operations in an existing network infrastructure. MCSA makes up the first four units of the MCSE – Microsoft Certified System Engineer – training course; it covers network administration. If you have limited on-the-job experience, then MCSA is better suited to the types of jobs you will be applying for. Microsoft strongly recommends that you have a minimum of one year’s experience with Microsoft servers, networks and operating systems before starting the MCSE certification coursework. |

Employers do seek out MCSE qualified staff to fill these positions, but due to the senior level of these positions they will require previous experience. For this reason if you do not have any previous experience then you are wasting your time by completing the full MCSE track. Instead you should look to take the set of qualifications that is best tailored to secure you an entry level IT position.

"How do I get an MCSA?" |

To achieve the MCSA without a year’s commercial experience you need to start with the CompTIA A+ and Network+. These two courses are the recognised foundation certifications required before starting, and also count as one of the four exams towards the MCSA.
A+ and Network+ certifications are aimed at confident PC users with no previous commercial experience.
The A+ covers concepts of IT, PC hardware as well as some legal issues within the IT industry. It is the most recognised certification for PC technicians and will give you the skills to build, maintain and support desktop PC’s both hardware and software. CompTIA does not just deal with Microsoft Windows PC’s, but also Linux and Macintosh. They cover the concepts behind computing to cover your foundation knowledge. In the industry we call this a vendor neutral certification. |
